Mrs. Janelle Schunk

Janelle Schunk joined the junior high team as interim principal in 2022. Schunk came to Sycamore with three years of administrative experience. She has served as an Assistant Principal of Oak Hills High School since 2019. During the pandemic closure, Schunk also served as the Virtual Academy principal for Grades 9-12. She has served on the district’s New Teacher Team, Family Support Liaison Team, and as the high school AP Program Supervisor, and content area supervisor of Social Studies, Art & Design. 

Prior to working at Oak Hills, Schunk was a Visual Art and AP Capstone teacher at Milford High School. She also has three years of experience as an adult and school-based educator with the Cincinnati Art Museum and Toledo Museum of Art. Schunk holds a Bachelor’s degree in Photography from Drexel University, her Master’s in Art Education from the University of Toledo, and a Master’s in School Leadership & Superintendent License from Miami University.

Mr. Tyler Meyer

Tyler Meyer became an assistant principal at Sycamore Junior High in 2022. He was previously the assistant principal at Mt. Healthy High School. He also served as Dean of Students at Mt. Healthy High School and Student Services coordinator for the district. He was the Summer School Coordinator during Summer 2018 for the junior high.  

Prior to becoming an administrator, Meyer taught at Mt. Healthy Jr./Sr. High School as an intervention specialist and lead teacher for four years. He was also an intervention specialist at Mt. Healthy South Elementary School between 2015-2018. He held the position of Union President as well as Senior Building Representative for the Mt. Healthy Teacher’s Association. 

Meyer previously worked as an intervention specialist and educational assistant at the Children’s Home of Cincinnati High School for Students with autism spectrum disorders. 

Meyer is also actively involved with students outside of the classroom. During his career at Mt. Healthy, he has served as the head coach for both the Varsity Boy’s and Girl’s soccer teams. 

Meyer graduated from the College of Mount St. Joseph in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education. He received his Master of Education and his principal licensure from the University of Cincinnati. He will be receiving his superintendent license from Xavier University this Spring.

Ms. Samantha Helms

With 15 years in education, Samantha Helms began her journey at Sycamore in 2024 as the Assistant Principal of Sycamore Junior High. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education in Language Arts from The University of Cincinnati and a Master of Education in School Leadership with Principal Licensure from Miami University. Additionally, Samantha has a Gifted Education Endorsement from UC.

Samantha spent 12 years teaching 7th grade Language Arts and 2 years teaching 8th grade Language Arts. Her roles have included Safe and Orderly Correlate leader, principal coverage at C.O. Harrison for a year, 7th grade team leader, volleyball and track coach, founder of Girls on the Run at Bridgetown, National Junior Honors Society advisor, and lead Online Health facilitator.

Outside of school, Samantha enjoys spending time with her three kids—Ryleigh (16), Chase (10), and Matthew (7)—and her husband, Nick. The family loves trips to Kings Island, camping, and outdoor activities. In the winter, they enjoy skiing and snowboarding at Perfect North. Samantha also finds joy in reading and taking walks whenever she gets a moment of quiet.

Her passion for education was solidified by witnessing students experience the “aha” moment when a concept clicks. She loves sharing her enthusiasm for learning and seeing the excitement in students as they engage with their lessons.
