Transportation
Car Riders/Walkers
We encourage students to ride the bus or walk home whenever possible due to the congestion that results from a large number of afternoon pickups by car.
Bicycles/Roller Skates/Skateboards
Students assume the risk of using bicycles, roller blades, skates, and skateboards on school property and/or at school events. Schools are not liable for accidents, property damage or theft related to the use of such items on school property or at school events. Students who ride their bikes to school should use the bike racks by the front entrance to the school. We urge all bike riders to lock their bikes. Bike riders should enter and exit the property by the sidewalk along Cooper Road. Bikes should never be ridden across the middle of the parking lot. Any infraction of these rules could result in the loss of bike riding privileges.
Bus Conduct
Students participating in transportation being provided by Sycamore Community Schools will abide by the Student Code of Conduct. Additional expectations specific to school transportation are outlined in the Transportation Guidelines. These guidelines are established in accordance with Ohio Administrative Code 3301-83-08 and can be found on Final Forms and in board policy EEACC and EEACC-R. Violation of these guidelines can result in disciplinary action to be assigned by building administration.
Responsibility of Parents/Guardians:
- Parents/Guardians are responsible for the safety and supervision of their student(s) to and from the designated bus stops and while the student(s) are waiting for transportation.
- Parents/Guardians will ensure that their student(s) are at their bus stop at least five minutes prior to the scheduled bus arrival time. Please note that drivers may not wait for a student not at the stop because of the impact it will cause on the rest of the route.
- Parents/Guardians will ensure that student(s) will ride their assigned bus and exit the bus at their designated stop.
- Parents/Guardians will review all Transportation Guidelines with their student(s).
Bus Misconduct Procedure:
Student misbehavior will be reported by the driver to the Transportation Department. Reports submitted by the driver will be directed to the appropriate building and administrative team. Building administration will meet with the student, provide due process, and assign discipline. Serious infractions and/or repeated misconduct could ultimately lead to riding privileges being revoked for the remainder of the school year. Drivers reserve the ability to re-assign seats or communicate further expectations at any point to help mitigate misconduct by students.
Consequences may include but are not limited to the following:
- Contact Home
- Mediation
- Warning
- Seat Reassigned
- Detention
- In School Suspension
- Out of School Suspension
- Suspension of Riding Privileges
Driving Privileges/Code
Only students with valid parking permits may drive to school. All vehicles must have a current parking permit displayed on the rear view mirror and be parked in the appropriate spot. Any student parked in an unauthorized parking space may receive school-issued discipline according to the student code of conduct. Students must drive safely at all times and adhere to the speed limits.
